Justices of the Peace (JPs) and Commissioners for Declarations (CDs) are authorised by Tasmanian legislation to undertake certain duties as part of the legal system. Whilst CDs are able to sign some legal documents (eg. statutory declarations and copies of documents), JPs have a wider range of authorised actions. A description of the different duties and responsibilities of JPs and CDs is provided by the Department of Justice.
